Luladot

Lula Dot is Lucy Norman. Her jewellery collection entitled "Timepieces Adornments" speaks for itself, softly ticking away from it's handcrafted display. Made from the inside of broken watches and discarded clock faces, every piece is unique and now timeless. With cut out shapes reminiscent of constellation patterns and lunar skies, the irregular nature of these objects coupled with their delicate assemblage is what makes these items so distinctive.

Luladot aims to upcycle London’s waste into lasting beauty, bringing new life to old objects. Please check out her website for her other product designs such as the "CAPtivate" lamp & her tierred book end lights called "Light Reading" which have lit up the Swanfield shop floor, the Geffrye Museum, & Colette in Paris to name a few. With us since the first swan happenings, we are happy to have her under the wing x

ZANZAN

Zanzan brings a touch of the lux and tints the 70's with rose coloured glass. Handmade in France, their collection speaks of decadence and fun. The presentation is beautiful, each pair of glasses given it's own box with printed cards telling of the inspiration behind each style, and exclusive to Swanfield, a brown leather case embossed with gold deco motif and soft suede lining to keep them safe when the sun goes down.

Launched in 2009, Zanzan’s first collection married a whimsical, fresh take on eyewear combined with high quality materials - a winning combination for some of the world’s very best stores who got behind Zanzan from the outset.

I've been wearing the 'Le Sept' pictured below and loving them. Thank you Zanzan x

Jenny Jenny

Inspired by a box of vintage silks, belonging to her Grandmother, Jenny Collier has reinterpreted the shapes and materials discovered within to create her second range of handcrafted designs, combining fine fabrics and threads with Stirling Silver.

Using her signature handmade tassels, now ranging from miniature and multi-layered to classically long and elegant, these updated favourites and new styles are a vibrant progression. Solid Stirling Silver is used throughout and complemented by oversized metallic painted wooden beads.

The production of these designs will only ever be in extremely limited numbers. Using finite vintage materials and making each piece meticulously by hand ensures each one remains precious.

Above... The tassel charm bracelet transforms with the addition of a matching stirling silver extender chain, to become a necklace. Simple versatility at it's most stylish.

Me at a party x

Serafina Steer is a london based harpist, pianist and singer-songwriter. She is also my neighbour, and at times the wind will carry the sound of her playing down the street. Her latest album release dubbed ‘Change is good change is good’ is a beautiful record, and Jarvis Cocker rates it as one of his favourite albums of the year thus far. Not too tall an order from the lovely songstress who mixes sweet pagan vocals with electronica, harp with keys, romanticism with humour. One song that makes me laugh is 'how to haunt a house party' where she sings 'I'm so ambient you'd walk past me at a party, me at a party'... but not so tomorrow eve. Not a stranger to the Swanfield stage, we are very happy to welcome her back for the grand opening night of 'Swanfield on Tour', July 15th.

Yes that is tomorrow! Take it away Sefa x

IN THE PLACE OF SHADOWS AND LIGHT

Drawings on paper
by Conny Prantera

Today we are white washing walls in preparation for Conny's spookily detailed pencil drawings of tangled braids and crumpled cotton dresses to be hung instore at Swanfield on Tour, on Hoxton Street.

Conny Prantera is an artist and illustrator who lives and works in London. Her work uses an illustrative language that narrates a melancholic and sometimes dangerous rite of passage. Her images of discarded everyday items such as shoes and undergarments are interwoven with landscapes of apocalyptic scenes.

The drawing is intimate yet somehow purposely absent of emotion. All the images are hauntingly still: some are postcard-like reproductions of places, frozen in time, others show personal objects casually positioned as if the character had just stepped away from
them. Yet there appears to be no return. An eerie feeling grips the spectator as it becomes evident that a decisive turn of events has taken place and nothing will be the same ever again.

I wish to thank Mark & Marco of MK11 for first introducing us to Conny's work. You can view some amazing pieces at their Studio & Gallery Space in Claptonia in a group show called 'Death, Love & Cock N' Balls'. Appointment only, so best to drop them a line first.

The secret is out...

Now'ness is the move and the swans have an exciting new location in the heart of Shoreditch, next door to the much loved Hoxton Boutique. As mentioned in the 'Secret Shops' issue in Timeout last month, the focus will be on womenswear with some exciting new designers to join the nest, so more details to come.

Doors open on the 12th of July!
